A luso-brazilian company’s show explores afro-diasporic culture, the right to faith and territory, and environmental preservation in a performance at the Nordic Black Theatre in October.

Cegonha – Bando de Criação presents Abaeté, a show by the group that combines puppet theatre and digital animation to tell the story of an adventure placed in Bahia by the girl Mari. For children and adults, Abaeté premiered in Porto, Portugal, in 2023 and has already been performed in Portugal and Brazil.

SYNOPSIS
In Salvador, at the Abaeté Lagoon, under the songs by Dorival Caymmi and the Ganhadeiras de Itapuã, young Mari plays with her animal friends while her mother washes clothes and her father fishes in the lagoon. A suçuarana (Puma) seems to threaten the peace of the village, and Mari decides to dive in a transformative adventure with her friends that will raise important questions about sense of belonging, spirituality, environmental care, and the right to land.
