Nordic Black Xpress

We welcome new applicants to apply in spring 2027!

Are YOU passionate about performing arts and interested in developing your skills as an actor?

NBX is a full-time theatre school with a strong focus on diversity and transcultural exchange, where acting talents often bring a range of backgrounds, experiences, and cultural perspectives beyond the Norwegian.

What is NBX?

Nordic Black Xpress (NBX) is a unique and independent educational institution offering full-time studies, primarily aimed at young adults in their twenties. However, anyone who wants to challenge themselves and develop as an actor is warmly welcome to apply!

Classes take place Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. As performances approach, the school becomes a vibrant and energetic working environment, with rehearsals extending into some evenings and weekends.

Teaching takes place at Xpressen, Schweigaardsgate 34 (Soon Grønlandsleiret 30), and at Nordic Black Theatre, Hollendergata 8.

The programme is free of charge, and students receive a monthly stipend of NOK 9,000 while attending the school. The stipend is tax-free, but absence from classes will result in deductions. The stipend does not provide entitlement to sick pay or unemployment benefits.

At NBX, we place great value on the artistic skills and perspectives that diversity and transcultural exchange bring. Actors from different cultural backgrounds and perspectives develop their skills together in an inspiring and creative environment.

The main focus is practical theatre production, where students work with experienced theatre educators and professional directors from the industry. Throughout the programme, students gain experience in areas including children's theatre, street theatre, etudes, African, Asian and European classical and contemporary texts, as well as devised theatre.

Daily training includes movement, dance, voice training, singing, and stage combat. Students also participate in workshops covering topics such as theatre theory, writing for the stage, physical theatre, clowning, puppetry, and project organisation.

Monthly play readings, combined with analytical work, provide students with a deeper understanding of theatre and dramatic texts. Students also have the opportunity to attend a wide range of theatre performances at different venues as part of their education.

After two years, the programme is completed with a diploma/certificate.

Who should apply to NBX?

Nordic Black Xpress aims to develop actors who reflect the diversity of contemporary Norway.

NBX is an acting school for anyone who dreams of a career in theatre, performing arts, or film. Here, you will receive practical theatre training in an inspiring and progressive environment while building a valuable professional network.

We are looking for people with a genuine curiosity about theatre and a strong desire to communicate and tell stories. You should bring energy, imagination, perseverance, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate well as part of a group.

Attending theatre school is an incredible experience, but it also requires commitment, hard work, and dedication.

The school is an excellent stepping stone towards further arts education, both in Norway and internationally, or as the beginning of a career as a freelance actor.

And the best part? NBX does not require general university and college admissions certification (generell studiekompetanse) – we are looking for something else entirely.

Admission takes place through auditions, giving us the opportunity to get to know you and discover your potential.

If you have the passion, NBX could be your first step into the world of performing arts.
