MANEATER by Hazem Header
Performed to evocative songs by legendary Egyptian singers and compositions woven from Egyptian politicians' speeches, MANEATER is a powerful solo dance performance exploring the fractured and toxic relationship between Egypt, its rulers, and its people.
Through intricate physicality, Egyptian folk dance, and deeply personal storytelling, Hazem Header navigates the complexities of loving a homeland while confronting disillusionment. Rooted in memories of the Egyptian Revolution, the work reflects on patriotism, oppression, resilience, and the enduring power of hope.
Poetic, passionate, and unapologetically romantic, MANEATER imagines Egypt reuniting with some of her most infamous former lovers. Together, they revisit moments of tenderness, nostalgia, and devotion—before watching those relationships inevitably unravel.
