MATATA — Poverty Slaps, But We Slap Back Harder
After sold-out shows and an enthusiastic audience reception at Gamle Munch in February 2025 and at Oslo World 2025 at Nordic Black Theatre, we are proud to welcome MATATA back — once again on home ground at Nordic Black Theatre.
The performance is part of our strong, long-term collaboration with Oslo World, which has helped highlight international music and performing arts in Oslo.
Poverty Slaps, But We Slap Back Harder is a raw and honest celebration of survival, where hope refuses to die and humor becomes a weapon against despair. It tells the stories of people who build worlds out of nothing, and of the courage to dance even when the music stops. The play explores the fight for survival, success, and identity — showing that even in the darkest corners, dreams can shine bright.
