a 15 minute read of the first document that declared the establishment of the State of Palestine.
The text is written by the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. The text mentions the right to self determine, the establishment of the state and the call for recognition and support, emphasising peaceful coexistence and mutual respect with neighbouring states. Yasser Arafat, head of PLO, reads it at the closing session of the 19th Palestinian National Council, before assuming the title of the president of the Palestinian People. The text was read in Algerie on November 15, 1988.
36 Years later we hear it again in Norway just after Norway has recognised Palestine as a state. It is read by Jade Francis haj (1986) on the 5th of June which marks Al Naksa, the great setback.
Jade graduated from the Norwegian Theatre Academy in 2015. He has worked with ‘Grusomhetens Teater’ since 2016, and performed in countries such as Iran, India and Japan.
