About Qanun:
The qanun is a Middle Eastern string instrument (ساز زهی) played solo or as part of an ensemble throughout Iran, the Arab East, and the Maghreb region of North Africa. It has spread to West Africa and Central Asia and is also found in ancient and modern Armenia and Greece. Its name comes from the Ancient Greek κανών (kanōn), meaning ‘rule’ or ‘principle.’
