In this world full of clothes we don’t wear we need to be more efficient. EMMARU invites you to a demonstration of old or unused garments turned into new and fun pieces. In this fashion show you will see that with a little imagination and work the possibilities of renewing a wardrobe are endless and without buying more than a few zips, threads and buttons.

EMMARU is a new upcycling brand born out of the need to consume less, to reduce waste and avoid exporting textiles to countries where they end up polluting nature reserves (Atacama Desert in Chile), bodies of water (Nairobi River in Kenya and Lake Korle in Ghana) and many other places in the global south. The whole philosophy of EMMARU is to use what already exists in a wardrobe: old but still good pieces, inherited clothes, garments with some significance or bought at a special moment. Anything can be transformed into something special!

Maru Sanchez is a Mexican film producer, tailor and swimming instructor based in Oslo. She started making her upcycling collection in 2024 out of garments that she refused to give away because she knew that about 50% of the clothes exported to the Global South end up in landfills and water bodies.

Come and meet us on Monday 5 May at Nordic Black Theatre & Cafeteatret. Hollendergata 8, Grønland. Kl 19:30.
